Welcome to Lost River Design. I hope you enjoy browsing through this web site. Lost River Design contains digital and scanned images taken in various areas of Alaska, Bermuda, California, Canada, Colorado, Guatemala, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada, Washington, and Wyoming. There are currently over 4300 images on the site. It's hard to believe the site has been up for ten years. For those of you who have visited this site in the past, I have rearranged the site into major geographic areas.

The site now includes images I captured during a trip through western Idaho, northwestern Montana, Glacier National Park, southeastern British Columbia, Kootenay and Yoho National Parks in southeastern British Columbia, Jasper, Banff, and Waterton National Parks in Alberta, western Montana, Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, and the Wind River Range. This trip, through some of the more scenic areas of the western US and Canada, was undoubtedly the best vacation I have taken in the last ten to fifteen years. Even though I had quite a bit of windshield time while driving the 4600 miles, the trip was actually a lot of fun and interesting. I found driving through and photographing the incredible landscapes/wildlife to be quite relaxing. The image above was taken during the early morning along the Salmon River in Idaho, between Riggins and Grangeville. I have also added five new pages of images taken in the Monterey Peninsula area (California Coast section). I am currently processing images taken in Great Basin National Park, near Ely, Nevada, and images taken on the Island of Hawaii (Big Island).

All images in the current Alaska, Bermuda, Bodie, Glacier National Park, Guatemala, Kauai, Mendocino, Mammoth Lakes, and Monterey Peninsula areas of this site are digital images, captured with an older Nikon CoolPix 990. The Olympic Peninsula, Lassen Volcanic National Park, and Burney Falls images were captured with a Nikon D200 digital SLR camera. Death Valley images were captured with both Nikon D200 and D300 cameras (I see a trend here...maybe the Nikon D800 is on the horizon) using Nikkor 18-200mm and 70-300mm lenses. The Canada, Mono Lake, Maui 'land', Ebbetts Pass, Sonora Pass, Grand Teton, Wind River, and Yellowstone images were captured with a Nikon D300 camera using Nikkor 18-200mm and 70-300mm lenses.  The Northern Nevada images were captured with both Nikon D200 and D300 cameras, using Nikkor 18-200mm and 70-300mm lenses. The underwater images in the Maui section were taken with a Canon G9 digital camera housed in a waterproof Ikelite housing. To date, all images of Yosemite National Park, the Lake Tahoe Region, and Carson Pass, all located in The Sierra's section, as well as the San Juan Mountains, in the Rocky Mountains section, were taken with an Olympus OM-2 SLR 35mm film camera and scanned.

The site contains images of some of the areas I have been fortunate enough to have traveled to. I should be posting images of the the Island of Hawaii (Big Island), Great Basin National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, southwestern Colorado, and southern Utah in the relatively near future. I have always enjoyed photography, where I am the typical amateur photographer, so most of the images posted on the site are not 'perfect'. Some of the images have a darker tone. This tone is the result of (1) toning down the glare or haze in an image too much with the polarizing filter when image was taken, (2) toning down excessively bright areas within an image while processing, (3) trying to bring out a certain aspect of within an image, or (4) it was just a dark and cloudy day when images were taken and I had the polarizing filter on the lens. A lot of the images were taken during my travels for work, where I did not have the opportunity to wait around for better lighting. However, I created the site so family and friends could see where I had travelled to, giving them some ideas on future travels or recalling memories of being there themselves. The site is also meant for people I do not know, have never met, and will probably never meet. If you have been to some of the places I have posted images of, I hope the images bring back good memories to you. If you have not been to some or all of the places I have illustrated, hopefully, you will see something in the images you like and make plans for your own visit to one or more of these unique and beautiful places.

This site is entirely commercial free and all images are posted purely for the visitor's enjoyment. However, all photographic images on this site are the property of Lost River Design, and cannot be used for any commercial purposes without consent. Please feel free to download images intended for personal use. Lost River Design is best viewed at a 1280 x 1024 or higher resolution. I also recommend having a high speed internet connection to view the site, for some of the more recent images are as large as 650+kb (0.65mb), but are ~1200x800 pixels. To view full size versions of the images posted throughout the site, just click on the associated thumbnail image displayed on the page you are viewing. You will need to have Java installed on your computer in order to read and use the navigation buttons on this site.

Due to changes in Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser, you will have to click on the navigation buttons twice in order for the navigation buttons to function, unless you're are using Microsoft's newer Internet Explorer 8 or 9 browsers. The change in the older Microsoft browsers is due to a legal action taken against Microsoft. I will be replacing the site navigation in the rebuilt version of Lost River Design. If you are using any of Mozilla's Firefox browser versions, which I strongly suggest you use for all of you internet surfing, you will not have any problems with the navigation buttons. For those of you still using the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser, I apologize for this inconvenience. However, you should do yourself a favor and switch to the Mozilla Firefox browser...by far the better browser.
